Data Decay (2011) Revisiting a vintage computer data storage format that uses reel to reel audiotape, Data Decay is the first of a three part, multi-format series of pieces that use computer data as the primary sound palette and room acoustics as a modifying agent. Images are converted to sound and played back in a tape loop. The looping audio is decoded and the encrypted visual content is projected. Variables in room acoustics, as well as mechanical inconsistencies in the reel to reel player impacts the visualization of the projected image.
